Aino Heinäsuo, head of design at Redecor, spoke exclusively to The U.S. Sun about the best way to elevate your bedroom.

She explained how the layout of most homes can affect how much light enters your room.

"Bedrooms are often positioned on the darker side of the house to facilitate restful sleep," Heinäsuo said.

This means your bedroom may often be darker than the rest of your home during the day.

Heinäsuo broke down the best way to elevate your space during daylight hours.

"To transform the space into a more welcoming area for daytime relaxation it's beneficial to boost its brightness," the expert said.

She recommended investing in two types of curtains for your bedroom.

Heinäsuo suggested adding sheer curtains to maximize the amount of light entering your room throughout the day.

While these curtains will help your space feel brighter, blackout ones will block out any light while you sleep.

"You can layer lighter, sheer curtains beneath the blackout ones to allow more natural light into the room during the day," she said.

As well as being practical, the design pro pointed out another benefit to the layered look.

"This also adds a touch of fullness and luxury to your curtains," Heinäsuo said.

The experts at The Shade Store also recommended the layering method.

"This pairing gives you the greatest amount of light and privacy control," they explained.

"Pulling the sheers closed and leaving the heavier drapes open lets you reduce glare and soften light while still retaining some privacy."

The curtain pros added that when "both sets of drapery [are] closed [it] provides a darker effect and greater privacy."

"Drawing them both open allows natural light to stream in and a full view of the outdoors," they said.
