PEOPLE hoping to volunteer for St John Ambulance are being urged to declare their pronouns.

Applicants are asked to tell bosses how they want to be referred to, to “make everyone feel included”.

This includes people with “less traditional” pronouns — and those who do not share their preferred gender terms are prompted to reconsider.

It reads: “Pronouns are something everyone has — they are words like she, he or they — which you want people to use when referring to you.

“We do not assume or guess what someone’s pronouns are based on their name or appearance.

"Giving your pronouns helps the people who look at your application show their respect for you and others.”

Applicants who still refuse to give their pronouns get another, more spiky message asking them to explain to prospective new bosses why those chose not to.

The guide was shared on X/Twitter by social commentator James Esses, who branded it “ideological harassment”.

Even the platform’s owner, Tesla tycoon Elon Musk, replied to the post, saying: “Wow.”

And barrister Colin Wynter KC chipped in: “It is a first aid charity. It will encounter males and females — there is no need for this stuff.”

St John Ambulance said it felt it was “important to promote the correct use of pronouns to be as inclusive as possible”.
