Cole Palmer Dream Team’s most-popular recruit ahead of Gameweek 28 – Chelsea set for three consecutive home games

The 21-year-old has registered 26 goal involvements for the Blues this season

COLE PALMER (£4.4m) is currently the most-popular recruit ahead of Gameweek 28 among Dream Team managers.

And it's easy to see why.

The 21-year-old was the architect of Newcastle's downfall on Monday night as he scored one goal and assisted another to help Chelsea win 3-2 at Stamford Bridge.

Palmer banked 12 points when all was said and done to take his tally to 225 for the season.

He's now fourth among midfielders overall, a tremendous effort without European commitments to bolster his schedule.

Since joining the Blues, Palmer has scored 13 goals and provided 13 assists in all competitions.

Phil Foden (£5.9m) and Bukayo Saka (£5.8m) are the only midfielders with more goal involvements to their name at this stage - not bad company to keep given the England internationals are the top two performers in 2023/24!

Palmer's impressive form is just one reason Dream Team bosses are using transfers in their droves to recruit him this week.

Maurico Pochettino's men are just one of two sides set to face Championship opposition this weekend.

Chelsea are set to host Leicester in the FA Cup and while that's certainly not a forgone conclusion given the Foxes are the best side in the second tier according to the league table, it has to be considered a relatively favourable match-up.

Leicester were storming the Championship at one stage but their lead has been cut to three points following a run of just one win in their last five.

Enzo Maresca will surely view the FA Cup as a secondary priority and may field something of a second-string starting XI.

After the international break, Chelsea have the luxury of two home games in Gameweek 29, Burnley and Manchester United, making it three fixtures in a row at Stamford Bridge.

It should be noted that the West Londoners' home record is nothing to brag about this campaign - they've won six, drawn three and lost four in the league.

Still, an easy routine should suit Palmer in the coming weeks.

When Chelsea do eventually play away next it's against bottom-of-the-league Sheffield United, who have conceded more goals than any other team in the top flight.

After that, it's another home against an Everton side on a miserable run of results.

Dream Team gaffers will want to stock up on players active in the European quarter-finals from Gameweek 30 but there should be room for Palmer in a successful XI as well.

If Chelsea progress to the next round of the FA Cup then they'll have some extra fixtures which will increase the viability of their best performers.

Palmer has been a revelation this season and has quickly become a favourite among Dream Team managers.

His ownership of 18% makes him the seventh most-selected midfielder but he may jump up one or even two places before the Gameweek 28 deadline.
