Can Alessia Russo halt Arsenal’s decline with her first club trophy?

Alessia Russo was signed last summer to help end Arsenal’s silverware dearth. Instead, she is at risk of symbolising it.

The England striker, who arrived in north London from Manchester United, has yet to win a trophy in her senior club career. Sunday’s Conti Cup final, against Chelsea at Molineux, represents her only realistic chance of breaking that duck this season.

“Yeah, I’ve not won any trophies at club level, there’s no hiding that,” Russo, 25, said. “I want to win trophies, that’s what you want to do as a player. When I won the Euros [with England in 2022], the feeling you get of winning a trophy is like no other.”
