A 19-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder after footage went viral showing a train passenger being stabbed in southeast London.

Video recorded by an onlooker featured passengers calling for an ambulance as they watched the stabbing and shouted for the attacker to stop. It showed a man in a black jacket and a mask attacking a second man on the floor with a large knife.

Rakeem Thomas has been charged with attempted murder and possession of an offensive weapon. Thomas has been remanded into custody, the British Transport Police said on Friday. He will appear at Wimbledon magistrates’ court.
