British carmakers report rising production six months in a row

British car factories have bucked the global trend to report rising production for the sixth consecutive month.

UK car manufacturing increased by 14.6 per cent in February to 79,907, taking the number of cars assembled in Britain in the first two months of the year to 163,000. That is the best start to the year since 2021, according to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders.

The industry has now recorded six straight months of growth, as it recovers from a sharp slowdown during the supply chain dislocation of the pandemic when production slumped to its worst level since the 1950s.
