Businesses with connections to a fundamentalist Christian sect are suing the government in a High Court dispute over Covid-19 tests.

Sante, a partnership linked to the Plymouth Brethren Christian Church, profited from hundreds of millions of pounds of pandemic contracts and claims the Department of Health and Social Care wrongly terminated a contract for 68 million lateral flow tests.

The government refused to accept tests supplied by Sante Global and Sterilab after it alleged that the Chinese manufacturer provided “false and misleading” information about working conditions, court documents show.

Sante and Sterilab, whose owners are connected to the evangelical group, also known as Exclusive Brethren, which follows a doctrine of separation from the outside world, are seeking repayment of the test costs and damages for
