It’s a long time ago that I first found myself in fashion land. More decades than I care to mention. Yet I remember what surprised me most about what the front row, not to mention the second and third rows, wore. Trousers. And more trousers. And there was me thinking they would all be sporting statement dresses and avant-garde skirts.
It’s the same today, the only change being that jeans have been added to the mix — although they are, of course, just another type of trousers. Why the ubiquity? I think it’s partly because dresses offer less flexibility, fewer how-to-wear options. I think it’s definitely because it’s somehow easier to find trousers that flatter than a skirt that does, and, relatedly, easier to construct
