Finn Russell is racing to play a part in Bath’s Gallagher Premiership run-in after having been ruled out for an indefinite period by what his club described as a “significant” groin injury.

The Scotland fly half picked up the issue early in the Champions Cup defeat by Exeter Chiefs on April 6 and will not feature in Saturday’s league return to Sandy Park or the home clash with Saracens six days later.

However, Russell — who has been a huge hit at the Recreation Ground since moving from Racing 92 after the World Cup — remains confident of being available at some stage in the closing weeks of a campaign which will have Bath travelling to Newcastle Falcons and hosting Northampton Saints as they bid
