If you spot hordes of revellers heading up Calton Hill with painted faces, otherworldly headdresses and, occasionally, barely there costumes, you know it’s time for Beltane. The Iron Age Celtic celebration of the beginning of summer is reimagined every year with a procession of drummers and dance, culminating in a bonfire at the top of the hill. Book tickets to join them, following the May Queen and Green Man to mark the changing of the season. Not your bog-standard Edinburgh Tuesday evening.
