An Uber driver has admitted killing a passenger in a hit-and-run. Kunathilinghan Mohanthas, 48, fatally struck Christopher Hanton in Glasgow city centre on August 5 last year.

Mohanthas had told the 40-year-old mortgage adviser to get out of his Mercedes Vito moments after picking him up.

He deliberately hit Hanton and then drove off, leaving the father of one for dead. Hanton never recovered after hitting his head on the ground, and died in hospital days later.

Mohanthas now faces a lengthy jail term after he pleaded guilty on Tuesday to a charge of culpable homicide at the High Court in Glasgow. He was remanded in custody and will be sentenced next month.
