Young people are being forced to drop out of university due to a lack of accommodation in what academics have called a “national crisis”.
Alister Wedderburn, lecturer in international relations at the University of Glasgow, claimed his governors are “pursuing such unsustainable increases in student numbers that many students are without accommodation as term starts”.
He said one “homeless” second year student showed him an email from the university advising them to withdraw from their studies, and said many of the student’s friends were in a similar situation.
The university confirmed it has asked some students to “pause studies” due to a lack of accommodation.
Writing on social media, Wedderburn said: “This is a scandal. So many stories like this. This is a national crisis.
