It can be a conversation which thousands of parents each year with a difficult diagnosis dread — how to talk to your children about cancer.

The Princess of Wales, in her video message, said that it had “taken us time” to explain the news to her children George, ten, Charlotte, eight, and Louis, five, “in a way that was appropriate for them”. Kate said that she had also taken time to “reassure them that I am going to be OK”.

Both she and the Prince of Wales wanted to allow their children time to understand and process the news before it became public. The video was published while the children were away from school on their Easter holidays.
