The United Nations’ top court has ordered Israel not to hinder the flow of aid into Gaza to avert a famine.
On Thursday the International Court of Justice (ICJ) told the country to co-operate fully with the UN and to allow “without delay” the “provision … of urgently needed basic services and humanitarian assistance”.
The judges in the Hague made the order as they considered the case brought by South Africa accusing Israel of genocide, which it denies. Israel has called the allegations it is blocking access to food, water, fuel and medical supplies to the Gaza Strip “wholly unfounded”.
The ICJ also called on Hamas to release all remaining Israeli hostages.
The order came as Israeli forces and Palestinian fighters battled in close combat
