Diplomatic relations between Colombia and Argentina have sunk to a new low after President Milei described his Colombian counterpart as a “terrorist murderer, a communist”.

Colombia recalled its ambassador from Buenos Aires in protest on Wednesday and ordered the expulsion of Argentina’s ambassador to Bogotá.

Milei has long had a fractious relationship with President Petro of Colombia. In November, shortly after the ultra-libertarian Milei won the presidency, the left-wing Petro tweeted that it was “a sad day for Latin America”.
