A homeowner has been landed with a £400,000 repair bill after a wall that is more than 150 years old collapsed after weeks of rain.
Adam Giagnotti, 42, who owns the five-bedroom semi-detached home that sits above the 12m-high retaining wall in Reservoir Lane, Worcester, has been told he is responsible for paying for the repairs, clearing debris and a set of temporary traffic lights, which has been estimated to cost £400,000 in total.
He said: “It’s going to destroy a family home. It’s a terrible position to find ourselves in and we had no idea when we bought the house.”
The businessman’s insurance company is refusing to pay out as it claims the wall falls outside the boundary of the property and was “inadequate”.
