Robert F Kennedy Jr’s announcement of Nicole Shanahan as his running mate for his long-shot presidential bid has met animosity from both Donald Trump and backers of President Biden.
Kennedy, the former Democrat now running as an independent, made the announcement in Shanahan’s home town of Oakland on Tuesday.
Both Trump and Democrats used the news to escalate their attacks on Kennedy as pollsters predict his campaign will be pivotal in the 2024 election if he takes crucial votes from the two other candidates in what is seen as a dead heat race.
“Our campaign is a spoiler,” Kennedy said. “I agree with that. It is a spoiler for President Biden and for President Trump.”
