My recurring mental image when watching Professor T languishing in jail was of Paddington Bear in Paddington 2. That prison had the same inauthentic vibe and Professor Jasper Tempest had Paddington’s guileless vulnerability. All it needed was Ben Miller wearing stripes and doing a long, hard stare.
Miller is extremely adept at playing the antisocial, OCD-ridden criminologist who, in this latest series, is refusing to defend himself regarding an incident at the police station to protect his ex-DCI Brand (Juliet Aubrey) and so is banged up in a germaphobe’s living hell.
