At 62, Sheryl Crow didn’t think she would be making another album. In 2019 she called up her friends Neil Young, Bob Dylan and Stevie Nicks to help out on Threads, which she intended as something of a goodbye to the music industry.

After all, she had made enough money to take it easy after the vast success of Nineties slacker anthems such as All I Wanna Do and If It Makes You Happy, and having faced down breast cancer and a brain tumour you can understand why she might want to retire to her ranch in Nashville, raise her two adopted sons, and hang out with the horses.
