South Africa bus crash: Girl, 8, is only survivor as 45 killed

Vehicle carrying people from Botswana to an Easter service in Limpopo fell off bridge into ravine

An eight-year-old girl was the only surviving passenger when a bus plunged off a bridge and into a ravine killing 45 people, the South African transport ministry has said.

The vehicle was taking people from Botswana, a landlocked country bordering South Africa, to the town of Moria in the province of Limpopo, for an Easter weekend church service.

The country’s department of transport said that 46 people were on board, including the driver, and a young child was the only survivor. Local media reports said that the child was a girl.
