Three men arrested over Channel migrant deaths

Three men have been arrested in connection with the deaths of five migrants who were trying to reach Britain in a small boat on Tuesday, the National Crime Agency has said.

The victims — three men, a woman and a seven-year-old girl — died after an unprecedented 112 migrants were crammed into a dinghy. The engine stopped working shortly after the boat hit a sand bank, having left a beach in northern France.

Of the 107 survivors, 49 were taken ashore and 58 refused to return to France, instead continuing on towards British waters.

The National Crime Agency (NCA) said that two Sudanese citizens, aged 22 and 19, and a 22-year-old from South Sudan had been arrested on Tuesday night on suspicion of facilitating illegal
