Times letters: Electric dreams must match up with reality

Sir, Further to your report “Flawed tests mean electric cars can’t travel as far as claimed” and leading article “Electric Dreams” (Mar 12), of course EVs get less range than advertised in winter, but you can also get more than the manufacturers say in the summer. After 40 years of motoring, I know that the stated miles per gallon figures for petrol and diesel cars rarely match reality, and also recall the deliberate fiddling of emissions data for some diesel cars. Accurate real world EV driving data for winter and summer on different types of road (motorway/town/combined) is readily available for all EVs on several websites (ev-database.org is a good one).
