An MP accused of groping two men had the Conservative whip suspended today after a formal complaint was made against him.

Boris Johnson moved against Chris Pincher after the allegations were forwarded to the Independent Complaints and Grievance Scheme, which oversees MPs’ behaviour.

The former deputy chief whip, who resigned from his post last night, will now have to sit as an independent MP while the claims are assessed by the complaints scheme.

It came after Caroline Nokes and Karen Bradley, both Tory select committee chairwomen and former ministers, wrote to Chris Heaton-Harris, the chief whip, warning of the “serious reputational damage” of allowing Pincher to remain a Conservative MP.
