A pensioner has been arrested for an Uber driver’s murder after they both fell victim to a phone scam.

William Brock, 81, is facing charges in Clark County, Ohio, for shooting dead Lo-Letha Hall, 61, on March 25.

Brock told investigators that on the morning of the shooting a man called him claiming to be a court official and asked for money for a jailed relative’s bond. The caller then threatened to harm Brock’s family if he did not agree to pay a ransom.

The same caller, or an associate, requested an Uber ride to Brock’s home to pick up the money demanded. The ride was assigned to Hall, who the authorities say had no association with the apparent scam.
