Victim in isolation as mystery killer bug hits Britain

THE deadly pneumonia bug that has killed nine people and infected hundreds more in three continents has reached Britain.

A man was admitted to hospital in Manchester yesterday suspected of being Britain’s first case of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS), which has caused panic in the Far East and for which there is no cure.

The man, who is described only as white and from Greater Manchester, had travelled from Hong Kong to Manchester on Saturday, taking flight KL0888 from Hong Kong to Amsterdam, and KL2037 from Amsterdam to Manchester. Any other passengers on these flights who develop a high temperature and other flu-like symptoms are urged to contact their doctors.
