Belarus

Belarus is a country of 9.3 million people in eastern Europe, landlocked by Russia, Ukraine, Poland, Lithuania and Latvia. It declared independence after the fall of the Soviet Union in 1991 and has been ruled by the dictator Alexander Lukashenko since 1994. Its elections are widely accepted as rigged and the regime has been criticised for its human rights record.
