Gary Lineker

Gary Lineker is a sports broadcaster and former footballer for England. He is well known for his work with the BBC as host of Match of the Day. Over the course of his football career as a striker, he played for Leicester City, Everton, Barcelona and Tottenham Hotspur. He was also a star for England, scoring 48 goals, currently the fourth highest of any player, and won the Golden Boot at the 1986 World Cup. In March 2023, Lineker publicly criticised the government’s plans to stop migrants crossing the channel on small boats on Twitter. The BBC deemed this as a breach of their impartiality which led to his subsequent suspension from the Match of the Day show. He has since returned to the programme.
