Several tornadoes have been reported in Nebraska, with one particularly destructive storm moving from a predominantly rural area into the suburbs northwest of Omaha, a city home to 485,000 people. Nebraska Emergency Management Agency spokesperson Katrina Sperl said that damage is currently being assessed.
Tornado warnings have been issued for West, Central and South West Iowa. Over two dozen Iowa counties, including Fremont, Harrison, Mills, Monona, Montgomery, Page, Pottawattamie, Shelby and Woodbury, are under a tornado watch until 7 pm local time on Friday afternoon.
Social media images showed severely damaged homes and uprooted trees, while videos of rural homes near Omaha looked heavily damaged. Law enforcement secured the area by blocking off roads.
