미국과 한국, 일본 합참의장이 28일 북한의 최근 도발과 3자 안보 협력 방안 등을 논의했습니다.
미국 합참이 발표한 공동성명에 따르면, 찰스 브라운 미국 합참의장과 김명수 한국 합참의장, 요시다 요시히데 일본 통합막료장은 이날 화상회의를 열고 3자 협력 계획과 국제 안보 현안, 그리고 북한의 최근 도발에 대해 논의했습니다.
[공동성명] “Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. CQ Brown, Jr.; Chief of Staff, Japan Joint Staff Gen. Yoshihide Yoshida; and Chairman of the Republic of Korea Joint Chiefs of Staff Adm. Kim Myung-soo spoke today by video teleconference. The chiefs of defense discussed trilateral cooperation initiatives, global security issues, and recent Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) provocations.”
미한일 합참의장들은 2023년 캠프 데이비드 정상회의와 3국 국방장관회의에 기반한 미사일 경보정보 실시간 공유 매커니즘 가동과 다년간 3자 훈련 계획 수립에 관한 3국의 이니셔티브 달성을 위한 상호 노력에 대해 높이 평가했습니다.
[공동성명] “The three leaders applauded mutual efforts in achieving trilateral initiatives on the activation of the real-time missile warning data sharing mechanism, and on establishing a multi-year trilateral exercise plan based on the 2023 Camp David Summit and Trilateral Defense Ministerial Meeting. The leaders also agreed that the DPRK’s provocative actions, including nuclear and missile development, reflect the importance of increasing the depth, scale, and scope of trilateral cooperation by the United States, Japan, and the Republic of Korea.”
아울러 핵과 미사일 개발을 포함한 북한의 도발적 행동이 미한일 3국 협력의 수준과 규모, 범위 확대의 중요성을 보여준다는 데 의견을 같이했습니다.
특히 브라운 미 합참의장은 한국과 일본 방위에 대한 미국의 강력한 공약을 재확인했습니다.
3국 합참의장들은 미한일 협력이 한반도와 인도태평양, 그리고 그 너머의 평화와 안정을 보장하는 데 도움이 된다는 점을 인식했습니다.
이밖에 이들은 올해 여름 3자 합참의장 회의를 개최할 예정이라고 공동성명은 전했습니다.
