What notifications will I receive from the BBC Sounds app?

We’ve started using notifications from the BBC Sounds app to your mobile or tablet to suggest programmes we think you’ll like. Our suggestions come from what you love to listen to in the BBC Sounds app and from how you interact with all our services linked to your BBC account.

To start with, we’ll mainly be suggesting on-demand content, but we may also notify you of a live event when we feel there’s something you won’t want to miss. We’ll be developing notifications in the future to do more, like notify you when a new episode of a show you’ve subscribed to is available.

How do I switch notifications on or off?

There’s a variety of options on where and how notifications are displayed. Here's how to manage these on your device:

  • Amazon Fire: Go to Settings > Sounds and Notifications > Manage notifications > BBC Sounds
  • Android: Go to Settings > Notifications > See all > BBC Sounds
  • iOS: Go to Settings > Notifications > BBC Sounds

You can also toggle them off and on in the BBC Sounds app. Go to My Sounds > Settings and select Push Notifications.

Why am I not receiving notifications?

Notifications are available from version 1.18.0 of the BBC Sounds app, so make sure you've updated.

After checking your app settings, look at your BBC account settings to see if you’ve switched off personalisation. You need to enable personalisation to receive notifications for BBC Sounds. Head to the Using the BBC website to find out how to check your personalisation settings.
