How do I install and uninstall the BBC Sounds app?

Installing

To install the BBC Sounds app you'll need to be connected to the internet (either via WiFi or a mobile network connection) and have access to the Amazon Appstore, Apple App Store, or Google Play Store, depending on what device you're using.


Amazon Fire

To install the BBC Sounds app on your Amazon Fire tablet, head to the Amazon Appstore. Your tablet will need to be running Fire OS 5 or above.

  1. In the Amazon Appstore, search for 'BBC Sounds'
  2. Once you've found the app, select Install and the app should begin to download
  3. After you've downloaded it, select Open and this will bring you to the app which you can begin to use straight away


Android

To install the BBC Sounds app on your Android phone or tablet, head to the Google Play Store. Your device will need to be running Android 5.0 or above and have a minimum ARMv7 processor.

  1. In the Google Play Store, search for 'BBC Sounds'
  2. Once you've found the app, select Install and the app should begin to download
  3. After you've downloaded it, select Open and this will bring you to the app which you can begin to use straight away


iPad, iPhone or iPod Touch

To install the BBC Sounds app on your iPad, iPhone or iPod Touch, head to the Apple App Store. Your device will need to be running iOS 11.3 or above, and you must sign in with your Apple ID or create one.

  1. From the home screen, tap App Store
  2. To browse within the App Store, tap Search and then enter 'BBC Sounds'
  3. Tap the app
  4. Tap Get then tap Install
     

Can't install the app? You should be able to use the BBC Sounds website on your device, instead. Type bbc.co.uk/sounds into your internet browser to listen to live radio, on-demand programmes, podcasts, and music mixes.
 

Uninstalling

Amazon Fire

  1. Tap and hold the app icon, and select 'Remove From Device'
  2. Tap 'OK' to uninstall the app, if prompted, and select 'OK' on the completion screen


Android

  1. Press and hold the app on your screen
  2. You'll see a small icon of a bin appear on the screen: drag the app onto this and release/let go
  3. You'll then get an on-screen notification asking if you're sure you want to 'Uninstall BBC Sounds?'
  4. Select uninstall and the app will no longer be on your device
     

iPad, iPhone or iPod Touch

  1. Head to the home screen and find the icon for the app
  2. Gently hold down on the icon for about two seconds until the icons wiggle. An X will appear next to some of the apps.
  3. Tap the X for the app and confirm that you wish to uninstall the app
     

There is no BBC Sounds app for computers. On your computer, simply head to the BBC Sounds website to listen to live radio, on-demand programmes, podcasts, and music mixes.
