Why has Chromecast stopped working on my device?

The BBC recently updated its Chromecast software to offer an improved and more robust service for our audience.

These changes mean that BBC Sounds will no longer work on some older devices. This is because those devices are currently running an unsupported version of the Google Chromecast firmware (the software that runs the BBC Chromecast feature).

Unfortunately, we cannot update our software to run on firmware that isn’t supported by Google.

BBC Sounds supports Chromecast on devices that are running Chromecast version 1.36 or above.

Devices that are affected include:

  • Cambridge Audio CXN V2
  • Kygo B9/800
  • Sony SRS-X99
  • Sony SRS-X77

If the firmware is updated by the manufacturer in future, Chromecast for BBC Sounds will be available again. In the meantime, some devices may be able to connect via AirPlay or Bluetooth.
