    • Crystal Palace’s 5-2 over West Ham was their joint-biggest win in a top-flight London derby (sixth by three goals), and the first time they’ve ever scored five goals against fellow London opposition in the top-flight.

    • Both of Crystal Palace’s victories by three goals in the Premier League this season have come under Oliver Glasner (3-0 v Burnley and 5-2 v West Ham). Prior to his arrival, the Eagles had only won one of their previous 71 games in the competition by three or more goals (5-1 v Leeds in April 2023).

    • West Ham have only won four of their 21 games across all competitions in 2024 (D8 L9). They have the fifth-lowest win percentage of any Premier League team this year (19%), behind only Burnley (13.3%), Sheffield United (13.3%), Nottingham Forest (15.8%) and Everton (18.8%).

    • In what was his 693rd game as a manager in the Premier League, this was the earliest a David Moyes side had ever been 4-0 down in a game in the competition (31st minute – Crystal Palace 4-0 West Ham).

    • With a goal and assist today, Crystal Palace’s Michael Olise is the youngest player to have been directly involved in 10+ goals in each of the last two Premier League campaigns (22y 131d – 13 in 2022-23 and 11 in 2023-24).

    • Michail Antonio made his 250th Premier League appearance for West Ham, becoming just the third player to reach this milestone for them in the competition, after Mark Noble (414) and Aaron Cresswell (291).

Crystal Palace hit four goals in the first 31 minutes as they thrashed sorry West Ham at Selhurst Park.

Michael Olise opened the scoring when he rose highest to convert Joachim Andersen's lofted ball into the box.

Eberechi Eze then netted a superb bicycle kick from close range and Emerson Palmieri turned into his own net under pressure from Daniel Munoz for Palace's third of the afternoon.

Olise turned provider, squaring the ball across goal for Jean-Philippe Mateta to sidefoot home.

Michail Antonio got in behind his man and poked past home goalkeeper Dean Henderson for a Hammers consolation towards the end of the first half.

But Oliver Glasner's side continued to dominate after the break and Mateta scored again for his ninth league goal of the campaign in an excellent performance from the Eagles.

Tyrick Mitchell scored a late own goal, firing back towards goal without looking and Henderson was unable to stop it finding the back of the net as West Ham cut the deficit to three goals.

  3. Sutton's predictions: Crystal Palace v West Hampublished at 11:01 21 April

    Sutton's predictions graphic

Chris Sutton is making predictions for all 380 Premier League matches again this season, against a variety of guests.

For this weekend's games, he takes on singer-songwriter and Arsenal fan Sam Tompkins.

    Sutton's prediction: 2-1

Who saw Crystal Palace beating Liverpool? Not me.

It is going to take until next season for Eagles boss Oliver Glasner to really make his mark, but a result like that is a good start.

I don't think it is a huge coincidence that the Eagles put in that performance when they had Eberechi Eze and Michael Olise in the team together. They carry much more of a threat with both of them fit, and it changes my whole way of thinking when I am predicting Palace games.

Palace have a classy player in midfield too in Adam Wharton - I saw enough of him at my old club Blackburn to be impressed and I love the way he knits things together so effortlessly.

Wharton is not the fastest but the first three yards are in his head and he just sees things quicker than most people. He can still improve some aspects of his game but he has only just turned 20 and looks like a shrewd piece of business by the Eagles.

As for West Ham, well they have got an uphill struggle to stay in the Europa League on Thursday, and they have got a fight on their hands to qualify for Europe again next season.

There is the danger the Hammers' season could fizzle out, although I don't think it will.

    Sam's prediction: 2-1

I've got to back Palace here. My girlfriend's mum is a huge Palace supporter and if I don't say they will win, I will never be allowed back in the family home. They have also just beaten Liverpool so their morale should quite high.

  4. Glasner praises 'fantastic' Andersenpublished at 19:18 20 April

Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner says Joachim Andersen is an integral part of his squad, ahead of the Eagles' Premier League match against West Ham on Sunday.

Andersen has been a mainstay of the Palace backline this season and has attracted interest from teams in the Premier League and Europe alike.

"I could see it from the first day that he is a fantastic player," said Glasner of the Denmark international.

"I think he feels good on the pitch, because otherwise you can't perform like he did at Liverpool. This gives him confidence.

"It's also difficult for him sometimes, because it was the first time [Nathaniel] Clyney played right of him and then, left, it was Marc Guehi for a long time of the season, then it was Chris Richards, now it's Jefferson Lerma, but Jeff Lerma will be out, so we have to find another player to play there.

"But this is also one of his biggest strengths, his leadership. He organises our defence, and also when we have the ball, in building up he's very confident in passing, and not just passing across or back, he's passing breaking lines. This helps us in the game.

"It's a team game, but he's a very important part of the team."

  5. Glasner looks forward to Moyes reunionpublished at 13:57 20 April

Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner is pleased to have the chance to stand opposite West Ham boss David Moyes once again, when the Eagles host the Hammers on Sunday (15:00 BST).

Glasner last faced Moyes when Eintracht Frankfurt defeated West Ham in the semi-finals of the 2022 Europa League.

"[He’s been] brilliant," said the Austrian in his news conference on Friday.

"They were in the quarter-finals of the Europa League this season. They won the Conference League last season. The season before, they were in the semi-finals of the Europa League. I don't know their exact [league] positions in the last years, but yes, it's a very good team and he's a very experienced manager.

"We had two very tough games against them when I was manager of Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europa League. Of course, I have very good memories because we won both games. But it was two years ago and one different team.

"For us [Palace], it's important to look at what we want to do, to perform at our best level and to win the game. This is what we were talking about – and also not talking about winning, but talking about what we have to do, what we want to do. This was the headline of the whole week."

  6. Will fifth secure a place in Champions League?published at 17:43 19 April

Remember when England was in a great position to secure a fifth place in the Champions League next season?

That possibility suffered a significant blow this week with clubs from the country exiting a host of European competitions. Their exits damaged the points tally England had amassed in Uefa's co-efficient rankings.

As a result, there is now a 1.1% chance that a fifth-qualifying place materialises.

  7. Glasner on injury returnees, Moyes and settling in Londonpublished at 15:10 19 April

Oliver Glasner has been speaking to the media before hosting West Ham on Sunday (15:00 BST).

Here are the key points from his news conference:

    • Jefferson Lerma is unavailable having picked up an injury in the 1-0 win at Liverpool: "We will miss him for at least until Manchester United [on 6th May], so for this week where we have three games in six or seven days."

    • Centre-back Rob Holding is back in contention for this weekend, after recovering from his own injury worries: "I am pleased that Rob Holding is back. He trained for the whole week with us and he will be in the squad."

    • Glasner says he is adapting well to life in England and the Premier League: "If you asked me one hour before, I would say, 'Oh my god - what weather we have!' But now it is sunny. I would say my mood changes four times a day because of the weather, but the rest I really enjoy. I enjoy working with all the members here at the club ands all the players and the staff. I enjoy the Premier League and of course I enjoy London, but not the traffic."

    • The Palace boss does not want to let the high of winning at Liverpool make his team complacent: "I don't want to talk too much about the Liverpool game because it's over. It's one week ago and it was a great win, but it doesn't help us winning against West Ham. Of course, maybe regarding confidence, but what we have to do on the pitch is very important."

    • Glasner expressed his respect for West Ham manager David Moyes: "[He’s been] brilliant. They were in the quarter-finals of the Europa League this season. They won the Conference League last season. The season before, they were in the semi-finals of the Europa League. I don't know their exact [league] positions in the last years, but yes, it's a very good team and he's a very experienced manager."

  10. Did we see a glimpse into a Glasner future?published at 12:28 18 April

    Crystal Palace Expert view graphic

Crystal Palace’s win over Liverpool offered a glimpse into what could be an exciting future for the club.

Under previous manager Roy Hodgson, the side were criticised for their approach to the big games with defensive solidity the focus for getting points against the traditional 'big six'.

After the victory at Anfield, goalkeeper Dean Henderson revealed that Oliver Glasner told his side that they were going to beat Liverpool.

Henderson said that the positive mindset laid out by Glasner had an effect on the team and it made the unlikely win sweeter.

The Eagles were positive from kick off, playing passes and getting the ball forward where possible, something Glasner has encouraged since he has taken over.

The winning goal was the result of a 17 pass move and the clip of Eberechi Eze’s goal has gone viral on the club’s X account.

Before the game, talk had started about how Glasner had only picked up one win in his opening six matches but you could see the change in the way Palace were trying to play.

Glasner is still without Marc Guehi and Cheick Doucoure, while Michael Olise and Eze are still building their way to full fitness.

The win has near enough guaranteed another year of Premier League football and with a pre-season behind him and a fully fit squad next season, Glasner could be set to deliver an exciting campaign for Palace.

  11. 'Fan enthusiasm has likely replaced nerves' for final gamespublished at 13:03 16 April

    Alex Pewter

    Crystal Palace fan's voice graphic

Crystal Palace must especially enjoy a Sunday afternoon at Anfield: the vaunted atmosphere, the TV audience, and the small matter of winning three of their past four outings.

Of course, the plucky team from south London have been the whipping boys for much of the seven intervening years, between those most recent wins, but let's not let that spoil a nice statistic.

If Jurgen Klopp dominated the pre-match narrative, build-up and part of Oliver Glasner's own pre-game press conference, the game belonged to Klopp's Austrian counterpart.

The result itself was cathartic for fans, players and coaches alike. As often as you can state logical arguments for why performances were trending in the correct direction, people naturally remain result-focused when developing their opinions.

In that sense, the unwarranted fan criticism levied at players such as Dean Henderson, seemingly evaporated after one victory. In truth, his performances remained assured and at the same level in past weeks – but this time he didn't face the world-class finishing of Manchester City.

The win all but takes Palace away from the relegation battle beneath them.

Luton Town will need 1.8 points per game just to surpass the team's current points total. Even if the head coach entered every match intending to win, a daunting set of fixtures will now seem competitive for those watching from the stands.

As ever, mentalities in football can be fickle and shift quickly – but fan enthusiasm has likely replaced nerves ahead of West Ham next week.

  12. Your views on Sunday's game published at 09:54 15 April

    Your views image

We asked for your views on Liverpool's defeat to Crystal Palace on Sunday.

Here are some of your answers :

    Liverpool fans

Debbie: Where was the pace and desire? Too much passing around the back , the few times they went with pace down the wing they were in! Didn’t do it often enough. Finishing in the games since we played United has also been poor.

Dan: It looked like we never left the dressing room in the first half. Too many holes in our defensive shape, no desire to win the ball back or press them. It was far to easy for Palace to pass between the lines. Second half was better but again no composure in front of goal, it felt rushed. We broke through a few times but poor decisions cost us.

Matthew: Absolutely poor performance. Letting them stand in the box alone to tap home their goal was schoolboy football. Jones has to take five touches even if one is needed and Salah is a shadow of his former self and doesn’t run in behind. A slow start again and some of them didn’t look like they wanted to be there.

    Crystal Palace fans

Rich: Performances have been getting better and stamina improving. This was the best individual performance from our defenders in months, everyone was immense. Mateta was awesome and very unlucky not to have two goals. Wharton again showed class. What a crazy game though and Henderson was brilliant too.

Tony: It was a gutsy performance by Palace and in the second half we weathered a Liverpool onslaught. On another day it could have ended 3-3 given the chances missed by both teams. But Liverpool were off the pace in many respects and Palace took advantage. A wonderful result for the Eagles to ease their possible relegation fears.

Vivienne: Fabulous team performance. The manager must take credit. I watched the first team training at Selhurst Park this week. We could all see the hard work the team is putting in! And now it has paid off.

  13. Can victory over the Reds 'be a spring board for next season'?published at 09:15 15 April

The Telegraph’s Luke Edwards says Crystal Palace's performance against Liverpool should give the players and fans hope of a "brighter future" under Oliver Glasner.

It was the Austrian's first league win since taking charge of the club in late February and it was done in style.

"It was a great collective performance," said Edwards on the Football Daily podcast. "And it was a much needed win and day out for their supporters.

"The fans needed that lift because it has been a pretty depressing season for them. Their noise really came through and it should give them a bit of hope that there could be a brighter future ahead.

"There have been questions about whether they will ever be more than a bottom half of the table team, so that win needs to be a spring board for next season.

"They have a new manager and although it has taken a while for him to get his ideas across, there have been some encouraging signs."

Eberechi Eze posed a threat all afternoon at Anfield, finding pockets of space to make life as uncomfortable as possible for Ibrahima Konate and Virgil van Dijk.

But with stand out performers comes risk.

"My worry for them is that in the summer they will lose Eze and their brilliant young players they have nurtured and produced," added Edwards.

"You want them to be the core of the new and vibrant Palace team next season, but I worry they will get poached and taken away.

"That is unfortunately the food chain in the Premier League."

    Sam Drury

After five games without a win, Crystal Palace fans could be forgiven for getting a little twitchy as the gap to the bottom three became gradually smaller.

This was some way to rid themselves of any lingering concerns over relegation.

Just a second win under Oliver Glasner but a hugely impressive one that provided a glimpse of what the future might hold under the Austrian.

The fight, grit and determination showed in the second half to preserve their one-goal lead was what you might expect from a bottom-half side away at a title contender.

What came in the first 45 minutes, though, was a long way from the norm as the Eagles put in the performance of a side whose aspirations should extend far beyond top-flight survival in the coming years.

Few teams go to Anfield and impose themselves in the way Palace did during the first half, with 20-year-old Adam Wharton putting in another excellent display in central midfield.

A 21-pass move leading to Eberechi Eze's goal was the coup de grace but, with Premier League survival now all but assured, there was plenty in Palace's first-half performance to get their supporters excited about what is to come with Glasner.
