  1. AC Milan start title defence against Udinese

    Italian Serie A

It's a big day in Italy where the Serie A fixtures for 2022-23 are out.

AC Milan will begin their title defence with the visit of Udinese, while Inter Milan - who are expected to re-sign Romelu Lukaku on loan - are at Lecce.

The opening round of fixtures are on weekend 13-14 August, due to the World Cup which kicks off in Qatar in November, and finishes on 4 June next year.

The league will break from 13 November to make space for the World Cup but unlike the Premier League will not return in December, with the action starting up again on 4 January.

  2. Ronaldo to leave Man Utd? - your reaction

    #bbcfootball

tomjackbrown: Has any player won the league title in all of Europe’s ‘Top 5’ leagues? If the report by AS linking CR7 to Bayern materialises, he could get his hands on a Bundesliga title and be 4 out of 5.

Travelling_Tone: Surely Ronaldo has to leave? Messi only 15 goals (and 2.5yrs) behind in CL all time scorer list. Ronnie can't afford a season away.

  3. 'A joy to work with'

    Leicester City

Speaking in May about Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers said: "He's an absolute joy to work with.

"I know he has the appetite to get better. If you stand still, someone will take your place - but he’s determined not to let that happen.

"He’s only going to get better."

  4. Dewsbury-Hall signs new Leicester deal

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall has signed a new deal with Leicester until 2027.

Dewsbury-Hall, 23, impressed during his 44 appearances in Leicester's midfield in 2021-22, scoring his first Premier League goal and winning the Players' Player of the Season Award.

Got some contract news that is coming out of Leicester City this lunchtime.

  6. 'Injuries and Covid did not help Lukaku'

    Gary Rose

    BBC Sport

When Chelsea announced the re-signing of Romelu Lukaku, it appeared they had secured the final piece of the jigsaw.

The 29-year-old had just enjoyed a stellar season at Inter, scoring 24 league goals and providing 11 assists as the Italian side ended a decade of Juventus dominance to win the Serie A title.

Lukaku also had unfinished business at Chelsea. He first joined them as a teenager from Anderlecht in 2011, but left three years later after failing to score.

Injuries and a bout of coronavirus did not help, but on the pitch he showed little of the strength, hold-up play and finishing ability that helped him score 47 goals in two seasons at Inter.

Despite his struggles, Lukaku finished last season as Chelsea's top scorer with 15 goals in all competitions, but given the significant fee paid to sign him, Thomas Tuchel and Chelsea fans expected him to contribute more.

  7. What would you buy Messi for his birthday?

    #bbcfootball

Joe: I’d buy Messi a replica of the World Cup trophy. An omen of what’s to come for the birthday boy.

  8. Ronaldo to leave Man Utd? - your reaction

Sam: Or maybe Ronaldo has been told he’s not guaranteed in the starting eleven. Just maybe.

John Guy: Wish Arsenal could invest in time machine and go back in time and sign a prime Patrick Vieira. What a dream signing that would been right now.

  10. Changes at Man City?

    Manchester City

Manchester City have not ruled out the prospect of allowing both Gabriel Jesus and Raheem Sterlingto leave this summer because of their faith in 20-year-old forward Cole Palmer, according to ESPN.

Arsenal are leading the chase for Jesus, while Chelsea are keen on Sterling.

  11. Lukaku set for Inter - your reaction

Text 81111 (UK only, standard message rates apply)

SMS Message: People seem to overlook the most important part of Lukaku's failure at Chelsea. He usually played in a front 2 at Inter as a second striker behind Martinez, which is his preferred role. He got 11 assists in 20/21. At Chelsea, he's simply deployed as a target man and lone striker in a very defensive team, and although he has the build for it, it's not a role that suits his style. from Rob from Middlesbrough

  12. Allen to leave Stoke after six years

Stoke City say midfielder Joe Allen will leave when his contract runs out at the end of the month. Allen, 32, has been at the club for six years since joining from Liverpool for £13m. Swansea City are 'really interested' in signing Allen.

  13. Newcastle sign Pope - your reaction

    #bbcfootball

Potato: Burnley fan here. Nick Pope is far too good for the Championship. He certainly goes with my grateful blessing. He will now hopefully become England's No 1 as Southgate will pick him because Newcastle will be a force to reckon with next season.

  14. 'I can't wait to get started'

    Newcastle United

More on Nick Pope's move to Newcastle.

"Now I'm here, I can't wait to get started," said the keeper after signing from Burnley.

"The deal has taken a couple of weeks to come to fruition, but it got over the line really quickly and I'm delighted to be here and I'm really looking forward to getting stuck into it."

Pope is Eddie Howe's second summer deal after the Magpies completed the signing of Aston Villa full-back Matt Targett for £15m on a four-year contract.

Newcastle open their Premier League campaign against promoted Nottingham Forest on 6 August.

  15. Lukaku set for Inter - your reaction

    #bbcfootball

Beau888: What went wrong? The Premier League is a yard faster than the Italian league, plus Lukaku needs the ball on a plate for simple tap ins. He's not a Shearer or Drogba kind of striker who makes things happen and can score from anywhere. As a Chelsea fan, I'm glad he's going but dreading the prospect of Raheem Stirling joining us.

  16. Will Inter return reignite Lukaku?

    Gary Rose

    BBC Sport

Inter Milan were unable to defend their title last season and finished second to rivals AC Milan, although scoring was not a problem for Simone Inzaghi's side, with no team scoring more than Inter's 84 league goals.

But the Italian side will view the return of a player that scored 34 and 30 goals in his two previous seasons at the club as the move that will give them the edge over their rivals in the coming campaign.

Romelu Lukaku turns 30 next year so time is no longer on his side, but a happy Lukaku is a scoring Lukaku and it is clear this will be a move that suits all parties.
