Brighton are in talks to sign Livingston's American goalkeeper Brian Schwake.

The 21-year old, who has spent the past season on loan at Scottish Championship side Greenock Morton, has been in at Brighton this week training so that the Premier league side's coaching staff could take a closer look at what he can do.

Schwake, though born in Mount Prosoect, Illinois, qualifies for a European passport owing to his family hailing from Luxembourg.

Brighton want him in as cover for Jason Steele while they are aware that Robert Sanchez is weighing up a potential move away after being ousted as number one.

Schwake would cost a minimal fee of around £250,000 as a cross-border compensation deal for a young player out of contract.

As befitting a player wanted by Roberto de Zerbi, Schwake has high possession statistics with a 73 percent success rate on his long passes and kept 11 clean sheets through the Scottish championship season.

Talks are ongoing with Brighton keen to get a lot of their transfer business done early ahead of their Europa League campaign.

They have already agreed to sign Joao Pedro from Watford and have deals in place for free agents James Milner from Liverpool and Mahmoud Dahoud of Borussia Dortmund.
