How can storms affect my reception?

Storms may affect your reception by moving or damaging your aerial system or cause problems with the transmitter, including problems with the electricity supply.

What to try if you’ve lost reception due to a storm

Check whether there is a problem with your local transmitter. Use our transmitter checker tool to do this. If there is a known problem with the transmitter, you'll need to wait until it has been fixed. As an interim measure, consider using BBC iPlayer or BBC Sounds if possible. And if you tried retuning when there is a transmitter problem, you may have to do this again once the transmitter problem has been fixed.

Checking with a neighbour is also helpful. If they do have a problem it indicates a transmitter problem. If they don’t then this indicates a problem with your aerial system and you should consider getting it professionally checked.

We cannot recommend individual Installers. However, the CAI (Confederation of Aerial Industries) is a recognised trade body that will be able to put you in touch with one of its members in your area.
