Belize in August 2024: Where to Go and What to Do

August is a Great Month to Visit Belize

Unlike the scorching temperatures found in most of the United States, August in Belize is filled with balmy weather and lots of sunshine. With fewer crowds and lots of advantageous discounts on tours and lodging, August is a great month to come and visit this gem of a country located on the shores of the Caribbean Sea immediately south of Mexico.

Top things to see and do in Belize in August:

Visit the ATM Cave in Belize

– Swim across a crystal clear pool of spring-fed water to enter the Actun Tunichil Muknal (ATM) cave system. Going on for miles into the inky depths, ATM was used by ancient Maya priests to conduct human sacrifices during some of the most turbulent years of their empire. Lying undisturbed for more than 1,000 years, the artifacts and religious items left behind in the cave make this one of the most important historic sites in the country.

Snorkel Hol Chan Marine Reserve

Thanks to a natural cut in the Belize Barrier Reef just a few miles offshore from Ambergris Caye, marine life flourishes in the Hol Chan Marine Reserve. An ideal spot for scuba diving and snorkeling, the protected waters of the reserve at home to sea turtles, anemones, rays, sharks, and hundreds of species of fish.

Visit the Grand Tomb at Xunantunich

– One of the largest Maya sites ever discovered in Belize, Xunantunich has been continually excavated by archeologists for more than 100 years. In 2016, a local team discovered a tomb of a Maya ruler underneath the main temple in Xunantunich, one of the biggest tombs ever discovered in Belize.
