À propos
The mission of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) is to promote policies that will improve the economic and social well-being of people around the world. The OECD provides a forum in which governments can work together to share experiences and seek solutions to common problems. We work with governments to understand what drives economic, social and environmental change. We measure productivity and global flows of trade and investment. We analyse and compare data to predict future trends. We set international standards on a wide range of things, from agriculture and tax to the safety of chemicals. We look, too, at issues that directly affect the lives of ordinary people, like how much they pay in taxes and social security, and how much leisure time they can take. We compare how different countries’ school systems are readying their young people for modern life, and how different countries’ pension systems will look after their citizens in old age. Drawing on facts and real-life experience, we recommend policies designed to make the lives of ordinary people better. The common thread of our work is a shared commitment to market economies backed by democratic institutions and focused on the wellbeing of all citizens.

Tax Inspectors Without Borders - or #TIWB is one of the best examples of what the OECD and the UNDP can do together in providing practical support for developing countries, helping to build capacity and mobilise domestic resources. TIWB experts provide practical, hands-on assistance on current audit cases and related international tax issues. Programmes are customised to meet the distinct needs of each tax administration across a wide range of areas. The initiative’s assistance ranges from transfer pricing and the reinforcement of criminal tax investigations to the effective use of automatically exchanged information (AEOI). To date, TIWB assistance has helped tax administrations in developing countries generate an additional USD 2.3 billion in tax revenues and USD 6.05 billion in tax assessments across Africa, Asia and the Pacific, Eastern Europe, and Latin America and the Caribbean. These achievements have been accomplished in partnership with international organisations such as the African Tax Administration Forum (ATAF) and the World Bank Group (WBG). Read more in the TIWB Annual Report 2024 to find out how the initiative is helping countries to finance the Sustainable Development Goals, deepening co-operation between OECD and UNDP, and expanding to provide greater support on frontier tax issues for developing countries. 🆕 Effective tax rates on labour incomes rose in a majority of OECD countries across a range of income levels and household types in 2023. The post-tax income of single workers earning the average wage declined in 21 out of 38 OECD countries. This year’s edition of Taxing Wages includes a special feature that examines differences in the tax wedge between first and second earners and considers the associated gender implications. Specifically, the report analyses the tax rates on second earners in married couples, more than 75% of whom are women in almost all OECD countries. It finds that second earners face higher effective tax rates than single workers when they take up work at the same wage level in the majority of OECD countries, although the difference has narrowed in recent years. 🔍 Discover the latest analysis in Taxing Wages ➡️ https://brnw.ch/21wJaEz #TaxingWages #OECDgender
