Things to do in Shrewsbury
When you arrive in Shrewsbury, you’ll instantly be welcomed by the iconic timber buildings and winding roads that make it a special place. If you’re interested in the history of the town, take a short walk to Shrewsbury Castle, built in 1070, it is now home to a wide collection of weapons, uniforms and medals from the 18th century to the present day. A stroll to the town centre will then bring you to the Shrewsbury Museum and Art Gallery, where you’ll find more collections that tell the town’s story.
If you fancy a bit of a shopping spree, Wyle Cop, which is rumoured to have the longest uninterrupted run of independent shops, is nearby, while the Market Hall, voted Britain’s favourite market, has an eclectic mix of even more quirky shops and food stalls.
When you need a break from the shops, the Quarry is a short walk away — a riverside parkland that’s perfect for relaxing. Each August the Quarry hosts the Shrewsbury Flower Show, with a wide variety of incredible plants, music and food to enjoy.
For evening an evening out, you’ll find restaurants along the riverfront, and throughout the town centre, serving cuisine from across the globe. This can be followed up by a drink at one of the many bars and pubs around the town.
